Diseases of the endocrine system are often due to hyperfunction or hypofunction of glands. The best-known metabolic and hormonal disorders include thyroid disease, diabetes and dyslipidemia.
Hormones are endogenous signal substances that mediate communication between different organs in the body and regulate a variety of metabolic processes. Processes and functions controlled by hormones are, for example, body growth, sexual development or the formation of sexual maturity. If there are disturbances within these hormone systems, normal metabolic processes and developmental processes can no longer take place properly or at all.
Metabolic diseases and hormonal disorders are often conditions that accompany those affected throughout their lives. However, in most cases, these diseases are easily treatable through lifestyle changes or even drug treatment.
